iPhone 3G: The Software
The operating sistem is iPhone OS, developed by Apple especially for iPhone and iPod Touch, based on the same kernel as Mac OS X. The iPhone OS has four important components: Core OS, Core Services, Media and Cocoa Touch. Thus, the operating system takes up less than half a Gb of the total available memory.
In contrast with the Mac OS X., iPhone OS includes an additional component, the core animation, responsible for the accuracy of the animation present in the user interface.
The iTunes application successfully administrates many of the iPhone and iPod Touch functions, including the operating system updates, improvements in the security system, etc.
The multi-touch screen has a virtual keyboard and access buttons that with a single touch turns the iPhone from a simple mobile phone into a real multimedia centre, where films, audiobooks, music, videos, etc., can be easily accessed.
The iPhone supports a wide variety of applications, from Calendar, Photos, Camera, to SMS, Maps, Notes, Weather, Stocks, iTunes and many others. However, these applications do not leave aside the ultimate functions of the iPhone: telephone, e-mail, internet navigation and iPod.
The browser used by both iPhone and iPod Touch is Safari, also developed by Apple Inc. and bundled with Mac OS X.
